Before the lights went down inside the theatre (home
of Stomp Out Loud), the film’s director Jon Avnet came onto the stage
and before introducing the film, he addressed the packed audience by
praising its star, Al Pacino. Avnet said that the movie got made because
of the actor, and called Pacino “a national treasure and a mench.”
