LOS ANGELES — ShoWest has named Steve
Carell ShoWest “Comedy Star of the Year,” it was announced today by
Mitch Neuhauser, co-managing director of the event that will be held
March 12-15, 2007 in Las Vegas. Carell will be presented with the
ShoWest Comedy Star of the Year award at ShoWest’s closing night
ceremony on Thursday, March 15, at Bally's and Paris Las Vegas.
"Steve Carell’s hilarious performances in the The 40-Year-Old Virgin,
Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, Bruce Almighty and Little Miss
Sunshine have made him one of Hollywood’s most sought after comedic
actors," said Neuhauser. "What makes Steve so deserving of this honor is
the incredible range of comedic ability and agility that he effortlessly
showcases on screen. He can play it broad and hilarious with the best of
them, and even more impressive may be the uncanny way he can play it oh
so straight and low-key for laughs—and yet with a touch of pathos—as
clearly evidenced this past year with Little Miss Sunshine. We are
delighted to recognize Steve Carell for all of his outstanding work by
presenting him with the ShoWest Comedy Star of the Year award."
Steve Carell can next be seen reprising his role as the polished,
preening newscaster Evan Baxter—and now appointed disciple—in the
hilarious new comedy from Universal Pictures and Spyglass Entertainment,
Evan Almighty. In the film, blockbuster comedy director Tom Shadyac (The
Nutty Professor, Liar Liar, Bruce Almighty) returns behind the camera
for this next episode of divine intervention. This time however, his
cast grows two-by-two. Newly elected to Congress, Evan leaves Buffalo
behind and shepherds his family to suburban northern Virginia. Once
there, his life gets turned upside down when God (Morgan Freeman)
appears and mysteriously commands him to build an ark. But his befuddled
family just can’t decide whether Evan is having an extraordinary
mid-life crisis or is truly onto something of Biblical proportions.
Gaining recognition for his contributions as a correspondent on Comedy
Central’s “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart,” Carell has successfully
segued into prime time television and film. His first lead feature, The
40-Year-Old Virgin, which he co-wrote with director Judd Apatow, opened
at #1, where it remained for two straight weekends. The film went on to
gross over $175 million worldwide and had #1 openings in 12 countries.
Carell also currently stars as Michael Scott, the pompous and deluded
boss of a Pennsylvania paper company, on the hit Americanized adaptation
of the acclaimed British television series “The Office.” In 2006, this
role earned him a Golden Globe Award for “Best Performance by an Actor
in a Television Series-Musical or Comedy.” Additional film credits
include the Academy Award Nominated Little Miss Sunshine, Over the
Hedge, Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, Bruce Almighty and
Bewitched.
ShoWest is the largest annual convention for the motion picture

the movie business and the single largest international gathering of

edition of ShoWest will be held March 12-15, 2007 at Bally’s and Paris
Las Vegas and is expected to draw more than 5,000 members of the motion
picture industry. Each year, ShoWest attracts delegates from more than
