— ShoWest has named Emma Roberts ShoWest “Female Star of Tomorrow,” it
was announced today by Mitch Neuhauser, co-managing director of the
event that will be held March 12-15, 2007, in Las Vegas. Roberts will be
presented with the ShoWest Female Star of Tomorrow award at ShoWest’s
closing night ceremony on Thursday, March 15, at Bally's and Paris Las
Vegas.
“Emma Roberts is a true Star of Tomorrow. While still in her teens, she
has emerged as an actress with a remarkable range of talent, on the big
screen, as well as on television,” said Neuhauser. “ShoWest has always
taken great pride in its longstanding tradition of recognizing the top
stars of tomorrow with this award, as exemplified by our 2006 honoree,
Jennifer Hudson. We believe the same good fortune and success await Emma
and are thrilled to honor such a very talented young actress.”
Roberts can next be seen starring as teen detective Nancy Drew in the
family mystery adventure Nancy Drew, from Warner Bros. Pictures and
Virtual Studios. Based on characters created by Carolyn Keene, Nancy
Drew follows Nancy as she accompanies her father Carson (Tate Donovan)
to Los Angeles on one of his business trips and stumbles across evidence
of a long-unsolved crime involving the mysterious death of a beautiful
movie star. Nancy’s resourcefulness and personal responsibility are put
to the test when she finds herself in the middle of the fast-living,
self-indulgent world of Hollywood. Directed by Andrew Fleming and
produced by Jerry Weintraub from a screenplay by Andrew Fleming and
Tiffany Paulsen, the film also stars Josh Flitter, Max Thieriot and
Rachael Leigh Cook, and is scheduled to open nationwide June 15, 2007.
Only 16 years old, Roberts has made her mark in the industry in a very
short period of time. After her very first audition, she landed the role
as Johnny Depp and Penelope Cruz’s daughter in Blow. Soon after, she
starred in the Sundance short film Big Love, directed by Leif Tilden and
starring Sam Rockwell. Her next role came in the independent feature
film Grand Champion, where she starred opposite Joey Lauren Adams. Most
recently, Roberts starred in Aquamarine for Fox 2000. Based on the Alice
Hoffman novel of the same name, it is the story of two teen girls who
discover a mermaid after their coastal town is ravaged by a hurricane.
In addition to her success on the big screen, Roberts has also starred
for the past three years as Addie Singer in the Nickelodeon hit comedy
series “Unfabulous.” Currently one of the highest-rated “tween shows” on
television, it showcases her talents for both comedy and singing.
ShoWest is the largest annual convention for the motion picture
industry. It is the only international gathering devoted exclusively to
the movie business and the single largest international gathering of
motion picture professionals and theatre owners in the world. The 2007
edition of ShoWest will be held March 12 –15, 2007 at Bally’s and Paris
Las Vegas and is expected to draw more than 5,000 members of the motion
picture industry. Each year, ShoWest attracts delegates from more than
50 countries in North and South America, Europe, Asia and Australia.
ShoWest is managed by Nielsen Business Media, a division of The Nielsen
Company.
