LOS ANGELES — ShoWest has named Freddy
Rodriguez ShoWest “Supporting Actor of the Year,” it was announced today
by Mitch Neuhauser, co-managing director of the event that will be held
March 12-15, 2007, in Las Vegas. Rodriguez will be presented with the
ShoWest Supporting Actor of the Year award at ShoWest’s closing night
ceremony on Thursday, March 15 at Bally's and Paris Las Vegas.
"Since bursting onto the scene with his critically acclaimed and Emmy
nominated role on HBO’s ‘Six Feet Under,’ Rodriguez has gone on to bring
impressive performances to such notable films as Dreamer, Lady in the
Water and Bobby,” said Neuhauser. “We are thrilled to recognize
Rodriguez for all of his work by presenting him with the ShoWest
Supporting Actor of the Year award.”
Rodriguez can next be seen in Dimension Film’s Grindhouse. From
groundbreaking directors Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez comes
the ultimate film experience: a double-bill of thrillers that will
recall both filmmaker’s favorite exploitation films. Grindhouse will be
presented as one full-length feature comprised of two individual films
helmed separately by each director. Rodriguez stars, as Wray, opposite
Josh Brolin, Marley Shelton and Rose McGowan in Robert Rodriguez’s
Planet Terror, a retro-futuristic vision of horror that’s been
weathered, stripped and aged to perfection. Married doctors William and
Dakota Block (Josh Brolin and Marley Shelton) find their graveyard shift
inundated with townspeople ravaged by gangrenous sores and a
suspiciously vacant look in their eyes. Among the wounded is Cherry
(Rose McGowan), a go-go dancer whose leg was ripped from her body during
a roadside attack. Wray (Freddy Rodriguez), her former significant
other, is at her side and watching her back. Cherry may be down, but she
hasn’t danced her last number. As the invalids quickly become enraged
aggressors, Cherry and Wray lead a team of accidental warriors into the
night, hurtling towards a destiny that will leave millions infected,
countless dead, and a lucky few struggling to find the last safe corner
of Planet Terror.
Rodriguez first came to prominence for his work on HBO’s critically
acclaimed “Six Feet Under” for which he received an Emmy nomination for
Best Supporting Actor, two SAG Awards, two Alma Awards and three Imagen
Awards. Rodriguez can most recently be seen alongside Laurence Fishburne,
William H. Macy, Anthony Hopkins, Sharon Stone and Demi Moore in Emilio
Estevez’s Bobby. His film credits also include: David Ayer’s Harsh
Times, where he stars opposite Christian Bale; Havoc written by Steven
Gaghan; Alfonos Arau’s A Walk in the Clouds; Dead Presidents, directed
by the Hughes Brothers; Wolfgang Petersen’s Poseidon; Dreamworks’
Dreamer and M. Night Shyamalan’s Lady in the Water. In addition to his
role on “Six Feet Under,” Rodriguez has also guest starred on the NBC
hits “Scrubs” and “ER.”
