ROSARIO DAWSON NAMED SHOWEST “SUPPORTING
ACTRESS OF THE YEAR”
DAWSON TO NEXT STAR IN GRINDHOUSE FOR DIMENSION FILMS

Rosario Dawson
LOS ANGELES — ShoWest has named Rosario
Dawson ShoWest “Supporting Actress of the Year,” it was announced today
by Mitch Neuhauser, co-managing director of the event that will be held
March 12-15, 2007, in Las Vegas. Dawson will be presented with the
ShoWest Supporting Actress of the Year award at ShoWest’s closing night
ceremony on Thursday, March 15 at Bally's and Paris Las Vegas.
“With numerous films to her credit including Clerks 2, Rent, Sin City,
Alexander and The 25th Hour, Dawson has emerged as one of Hollywood’s
most sought after actresses,” noted Neuhauser. “We just know that Ms.
Dawson is going to electrify audiences worldwide with her performance in
the eagerly anticipated Grindhouse and ShoWest is delighted to recognize
her incredible talent by presenting her with the 2007 Supporting Actress
of the Year Award.”
Dawson can next be seen in Dimension Film’s Grindhouse. From
groundbreaking directors Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez comes
the ultimate film experience: a double-bill of thrillers that will
recall both filmmaker’s favorite exploitation films. Grindhouse will be
presented as one full-length feature comprised of two individual films
helmed separately by each director. Dawson stars, as Abernathy, opposite
Sydney Tamiia Poitier, Jordan Ladd, Vanessa Ferlito and Kurt Russell in
Quentin Tarantinos’ Death Proof. For Austin, Texas’ hottest DJ, Jungle
Julia (Sydney Tamiia Poitier), dusk offers an opportunity to unwind with
two of her closest friends, Shanna and Arlene (Jordan Ladd and Vanessa
Ferlito). This three-fox posse sets out into the night, turning heads
form Guero’s to the Texas Chili Parlor. But not all of the attention is
innocent: covertly tracking their moves is Stuntman Mike (Kurt Russell),
a scarred, weathered rebel who leers from behind the wheel of his muscle
car. As the girls settle into their beers, Mike’s weapon, a white-hot
juggernaut, revs just a few feet away in the parking lot.
Dawson made her film debut in the highly acclaimed and controversial hit
KIDS, after she was discovered in her native New York. With a surprise
midnight screening at Sundance and a spot in the main competition at the
Cannes Film Festival, Dawson’s film career was well underway. Most
recently Dawson starred in her first self produced film Descent, for
director Talia Lugacy, which will premiere this April at the Tribeca
Film Festival. In 2005, Dawson starred in the role of ‘Mimi Valdez’ in
the film adaptation of the famed Broadway play Rent and also made a huge
impact starring in the Robert Rodriguez/Frank Miller film noir drama Sin
City. This Miramax/Dimension film opened at #1 at the box office.
Dawson’s additional film credits include; Sidewalks of New York, Men in
Black 2, Shattered Glass, The Rundown, Alexander, and Clerks 2. She can
also be seen later this year in the John Madden directed, Killshot
alongside Mickey Rourke, Diane Lane and Johnny Knoxville as well as in
Sin City 2 alongside Jessica Alba, Clive Owen, Brittany Murphy and
Michael Clarke Duncan.
