LOS ANGELES--()--Aaron Paul has been cast to play the lead in DreamWorks Studios action film “Need for Speed,” it was announced today by DreamWorks’ President of Production, Holly Bario. Scott Waugh (“Act of Valor”) is attached to direct, and the project has a target production start date for early next year and a theatrical release on February 7, 2014.

David Heyman to Produce Young Adult Adaptation

LOS ANGELES--(BusinessWire)--DreamWorks Studios has acquired the feature film rights to Leigh Bardugo’s debut novel “Shadow and Bone,” it was announced today by Holly Bario, President of Production at the studio. The young adult fantasy was published in June 2012 by Henry Holt Books for Young Readers, an imprint of Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group, and is the first in a planned three book series, called the Grisha Trilogy. David Heyman, who produced the Harry Potter films, will produce along with "Up in the Air" producer Jeffrey Clifford.

UNLV Film Professor David Schmoeller Receives Lifetime Achievement Award

Las Vegas, Nev.  –UNLV Department of Film Associate Professor David Schmoeller recently received a Lifetime Achievement Award for Excellence in World Cinema.  The event took place at the Fantaspoa Film Festival in Porto Alegre, Brazil – the largest genre film festival in South America – and featured the world premiere of Schmoeller’s 10th feature film Little Monsters (2012), shot on location in Las Vegas with a crew comprised of UNLV Department of Film graduates and local professionals. The feature film tells the story of two boys who are released from prison on their 18th birthdays after killing a three-year-old boy when they were 10.
